The idea is to unpack personal effects (kitchen, bathroom, linen, etc.) after coming up with a plan, not just to get it over with though tempting it may be to finish quickly and finally rest from the moving ordeal.
But, taking the time to develop an unpacking plan pays off at then end because the reward is more storage space, make space more accommodating and even productive and enjoyable.
I do want to point out that some moving companies do offer the option to fully unpack all boxes, leaving all items on counter tops for you to put away later. Of course, this full unpack option takes care of the debris (the movers take the cartons and packing materials), but it may leave you with lots of items laying around.
